Authors.

I have had the recent revelation that MOST of my favorite authors are women.  This does not shock anyone but myself.  I am no feminist; and if you had asked me a few months ago about the great authors of our time, I would have absent-mindedly said they were mostly men.  However, MY favorite authors are in fact mostly women.  I find kindred spirits in the strong, self-willed, yet still feminine protagonists devised by female writers. Lizzy Bennet, Jo March, Scout Finch, Hermione Granger and even Katniss Everdeen are all in some way a part of who I am.
So here are my favorite authors and books... in no particular order:

Harper Lee & To Kill a Mockingbird
It's no secret that the Alabama born Lee is my favorite. There is something so distinct about her Southern voice... I love everything about her... from her snarky approach to interviewers to her Boo Radley-like reclusion.  She only needed to write one book.  There's no where but down when you're on top.

Jean Louise "Scout" Finch

Jane Austen & Pride and Prejudice
As a self-proclaimed Jane Austen junkie, I would still have to say that her most popular work Pride and Prejudice is still my favorite Austen narrative.  Although we can not discount Sense and Sensibility, Persuasion, and Emma.

Still my favorite version... Could watch it everyday!

I have changed my blog background to commemorate my love for this work (and movie)!

J.K. Rowling & Harry Potter series
This Brit penned one of the greatest series of our time... and brought the Wizarding World into Muggle homes everywhere.  Not only do I feel as though I intimately know her characters... I sometimes find myself wondering if there isn't a train with eager first years flitting off to Hogwarts somewhere.  Ps- We're going to Harry Potter World on vacation this summer!!!

J.K is no joke!

Hermione Jean Granger

Louisa May Alcott & Little Women
She's my American Jane Austen.  I read this book when I was in fourth grade.... I remember how HUGE it looked to me then.  I cried when Beth died... and when Jo cut her hair.  I have read it several times since, although it has been a while. This book made me wish for sisters.

Josephine "Jo" (March) Bhaer

S.E. Hinton & The Outsiders
Hinton was only 15 when she began writing The Outsiders! Even though it had no strong female lead, I remember I scoured my elementary school's library after I read this book and read EVERY BOOK that we had... including, Rumble Fish, That Was Then This is Now, and Tex. I'll still never name a kid Ponyboy or Soda Pop, though...

Suzanne Collins & The Hunger Games trilogy
She is the latest addition to my list of "treasures" and rightly so. Not since I left Hogwarts have I been so enthralled by a series.  I have already read the trilogy through twice.... and I can't get enough!
The Hunger Games is as good as everyone says it is... Real or Not Real?  REAL!!!
